It was established at Pune, Maharashtra State in 1952 as Virus Research Centre (VRC) under the auspices of the ICMR and the Rockefeller Foundation (RF), USA. It was an outcome of the global programme of the RF investigating the Arthropod Borne viruses. Since the studies on arboviruses and their arthropod vectors involve most of the basic principles and techniques of general virology, entomology and zoology, these viruses were also considered to be an ideal group, to begin with, intensive training and research in virology in our country. The RF withdrew its support in 1967 and since then the Institute is entirely funded the ICMR. JOB DISCRIPTION: 1(one) M.Sc. (Life Sciences), Microbiology, Biochemistry, Botany. Two years research experience. Desirable : Experience in handling Zoological specimens. Knowledge of computer applications Research Associate–I/ 1(one) M.D./Ph.D. in life science with 3 years post doctoral experience. Desirable : 1. Experience of working in BSL-3 Laboratory. 2. Research experience in Molecular Biology/Immunology/Virology and shall be able to conduct research independently. 3. Knowledge of computer applications generating data analysis & publication purpose.   Technical Officer-A (Engg.Electronics)/ 1(one) Graduates degree in Engineering with 2 years experience or 3 years Diploma in Engineering with 3 years experience. Desirable : Experience in microprocessor / PLC controlled laboratory Equipments and AutoCAD. Experience in HVAC control field.
